“Enter through the narrow gate, because the gate is wide and the way is spacious that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. But the gate is narrow and the way is difficult that leads to life, and there are few who find it.”

- Matthew 7:13-14

Jesus Christ prophesied that at the end of the age He would have an overcoming bride who has been transformed into His likeness. He is the narrow path that we seek to walk on to become that ready people.

“Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent. Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me. The one who conquers, I will grant him to sit with me on my throne, as I also conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”

- Revelation 3:19-22

The House of God is a major point of emphasis throughout the scriptures, and the revelation brought forth in the New Covenant is that God has no desire to live in buildings (Acts 7:48). It doesn’t matter, then, what fellowship you’re a part of, the structure in which it meets has nothing to do with the dwelling place of God. This is quite offensive to many who were given the same shallow Sunday School teachings I was exposed to as a boy, just as it offended the Jews in Acts 7, but your church building isn't holy or consecrated or special in any way, and it means nothing to the God of creation.

Where is the House you would build for Me?

A House for His Governmental Authority

In the Book of Matthew, Jesus tells us, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head,” (8:20). When I was a teenager, I heard a Bible Study on this verse, and the teacher pointed to an idea that Jesus was homeless as a sign of the cost of discipleship. I’m okay with that interpretation to a certain extent, but there’s a much more profound message in this passage.

The Foolishness of Preaching

In recovery, God chooses preaching to confound the wise.  It’s not a model of preaching He has chosen, but it is the message of the Cross that is foolishness to the hearer.  So He chooses people to preach His message, not a system, formula or model.  The goal is not to convert the preacher alone, but to reach the hearts of real people, sinners and saints alike.

The Cross of Christ was not only an instrument of reconciliation over 2000 years ago, but is God’s present day tool of transformation.

Let us look for His coming and be ready for Him by the Holy Spirit’s grace and power.

The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.
